Taking a PO number and putting the order on hold is enough to accept a purchase order. It is not enough to sell on account, because selling on account means deciding who gets credit, how much, and what happens when an invoice goes past due.
Purchase Order Pro runs the account behind the payment method: who may buy on account, their credit limit, their terms, and what is still unpaid.
What Pro adds
- Decide who may buy on account — Offer purchase orders to chosen roles, to named customers, or both. Everyone else never sees the option. Set a minimum order total so small orders go through a normal payment method.
- Credit limits with a live balance — A store default, overridden per customer. The outstanding figure is worked out from real orders — unpaid POs count, refunds come off, and marking an order paid frees the credit automatically. There is no ledger to keep in step.
- Buyers see their limit before they order — The credit remaining is shown while they are choosing how to pay, not after the order is refused.
- One limit per company — With Company Sub-Accounts running, every buyer spends the one company line, so five buyers cannot quietly run up five times the limit.
- PO number rules — Require a format so your accounts system gets consistent references, and refuse a PO number that has already been used.
- Payment terms that hold still — Net 15, 30, 60 or due on receipt. The due date is stamped when the order is placed, so it never moves under the customer if you change your terms later.
- Chase what is unpaid — A report of every outstanding PO, oldest first, with overdue flagged and counted on the menu. One polite reminder goes out a set number of days after the due date — once per order, never every morning.

Upgrading from free
Install and activate Pro and the free plugin is deactivated automatically. Both versions read the same data, so every setting and everything you have already created carries over untouched. There is no import step and nothing to reconfigure.
What happens without a license
Pro degrades to the free feature set rather than switching off. Your store keeps working, your Pro configuration is kept safe rather than deleted, and everything starts applying again the moment a key is activated. Losing a license should never cost you a sale.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the outstanding balance calculated?
From your orders. Any purchase order that is on hold or pending counts as owed, less anything refunded. Mark it processing or completed and it stops counting. Nothing to reconcile.
Does an order count against its own credit limit?
No. The order being placed is excluded from its own check, so a customer with a full line of credit can spend all of it in one go.
What happens when a customer goes over?
Your choice: stop the order with a message telling them how much room they have left, or take it and put a note on it. Some shops would rather have the sale and the conversation.
