Not every customer should see every way to pay. Cash on delivery on a £4,000 pallet order, or card payment from an account that has already agreed 30-day terms, is a conversation nobody wants to have twice. The free plugin hides a method from a role, which covers the common case and nothing beyond it.

Payment & Shipping by Role Pro handles the rest: conditions on the basket and the address, “offered here and nowhere else” rules, and a surcharge or discount attached to a payment method — usually the part that pays for the plugin on its own.

What Pro adds

  • Conditions that match reality — Card only above a value, no cash on delivery outside your country, bank transfer for one named account, a method that appears only when a particular category is in the basket.
  • Offered here and nowhere else — Say where a method applies rather than listing everywhere it does not, and it stays correct when you start shipping somewhere new.
  • Charge for the expensive ones — A percentage or a fixed amount on a payment method, shown as its own clearly named line. Card processing costs you money; this is where you stop absorbing it.
  • Reward the cheap ones — The same field takes a negative number, so a discount for paying by bank transfer is one setting rather than another screen to learn.
  • Shipping too — The same conditions on shipping methods, so free shipping over a threshold or a courier reserved for trade accounts is a rule and not a plugin conflict.
  • Correct on every totals pass — The fee is recalculated from scratch each time, so a customer who changes their mind twice is charged once. A percentage is always taken on the subtotal, never on a total that already includes the fee.
  • Scheduled — Start and end dates, for the surcharge that only applies over the holiday period.

Upgrading from free

Install and activate Pro and the free plugin is deactivated automatically. Both versions read the same data, so every setting and everything you have already created carries over untouched. There is no import step and nothing to reconfigure.

What happens without a license

Pro degrades to the free feature set rather than switching off. Your store keeps working, your Pro configuration is kept safe rather than deleted, and everything starts applying again the moment a key is activated. Losing a license should never cost you a sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a customer end up with no way to pay?

Only if your rules say so — the plugin does what it is told. It is worth checking the checkout as a guest and as each role after writing a set of rules, which takes a minute and is the one mistake worth guarding against.

Is a surcharge taxed?

Your choice, per fee. Tick the box and it is taxed at your store’s standard rate; leave it and it is not. Which is correct depends on your jurisdiction and is worth asking your accountant about once.

What happens without a license?

Conditional rules and fees stop, and the free behaviour continues — role-based hiding still works exactly as before. Nothing is ever added to a customer’s total by a plugin that cannot verify its own license, and no payment method is taken away because a key expired.
